Jojo's Milk Bar

Jacqueline Klisch

Jojo’s Milk Bar is a three month old restaurant in river north that has not only good american food but amazing and photogenic milkshakes. The first thing you see when you walk up to the restaurant is the bright blue ottoman and sometimes a line of people waiting outside for the new big thing in the Chicago food scene. Right when you walk inside there is a bright and colorful neon sign of ice cream drawing you in. While this milk bar is known for its extravagant milkshakes, it also has a full lunch and dinner menu. It ranges from soup, to sandwiches, to salads, and even includes a number of dessert items not including the shakes. The menu of savory and sweet food is just enough to satisfy your cravings and give your instagram a food boost.

What I ordered and what seems to be most popular there were two shakes, which have the option of adding alcohol, and the plate of Jojo’s fries. Of the seven shakes, we ordered the “Gold Digger”, a caramel and chocolate-y shake, as well as the “Rocky-IV”, which is more of a peanut lovers shake. Each drink also included a few extra sweet treats to top it off. Although I was not able to finish all the extra treats, I took the cookie in my purse to go and the marshmallow on a stick for the road to eat on the walk home.

In the end, the shakes were delicious and the plate of fries was gone in a quick minute. My friend and I both enjoyed our meals and were more than satisfied. Although the food was as delicious as it looked, there was also a price to match. Each shake was $14 and adding booze is an extra $6. Meanwhile the fries also cost $10. While each serving of food is a larger amount than normal, it is on the pricier side. This is a place where I would suggest people share food and save some money. While today seemed like there were many families, I think this would be a good spot for a date as well if you’re looking to impress someone. Being just a quick walk from the Water Tower campus for Loyola, I see this place having a lot of success in the future and look forward to what they will do next with their business as it grows.
